On any stage

If you don’t know by now shopping is one of my all time favorite sports and as someone who is constantly on the go, I always love being able to find a place with a huge selection to offer. I recently got to attend the grand opening of a new Bealls in Seguin Texas, and was thrilled with all they had to offer and all the amazing deals.

They had Home decor and essentials, clothing and accessories, a great shoe selection, makeup/perfume, toys galore, and so much more. Bealls is a one-stop-shop type of operation, where you’re able to purchase an array of different products from the brands we all know and love. I think it would be perfect, especially with the holiday season rolling around to be able to pop into one of their many locations to be able to find everything you need for gift giving without having to break the bank.

I am currently in the midst of redecorating a few areas in my apartment, to give it more of a Rustic Industrial feel, and I was able to find the major things I was looking for and more. I found the cutest comforter set, sheets to match, and a few decor items to tie the space together. We went for a blue toned color palette, but I can tell you it was a hard choice with all the options they have available. I have listed a few of the items I purchased below, definitely go check out the website, they have some major pieces available at such great deals, it’s hard not to want to take it all!

I can’t wait to show you guys more of the space once it’s all completed!

Magnolias

Fact: Magnolias are my absolute favorite flowers, they are so beautiful, elegant and unique.

I recently took a trip down to the Magnolia Market, a bucket list item that I now get to check off. As an avid HGTV watcher and a definite Chip and Joanna fan, I have been wanting to see this creation of theirs ever since the first mention on their show Fixer Upper. The Magnolia Market is full of beautiful home good treasures, both big and small, that would fit easily into any decor.

I also love that they have the cutest areas to sit and relax and picnic, they have several Food Truck vendors dedicated to the venue as well as games the whole family can play. Part of the property is also dedicated to their in house bakery and is filled with delicious aromas and even more delicious treats. This is definitely a day trip worth taking to see the extremely aesthetically pleasing and well thought out grounds.

For me, the biggest allure to the Market was the fact that Chip and Joanna are such a lovable and loving couple, that they are able to take something forgotten and overlooked and make it beautiful, and that they have an eye for seeing the potential in things that others can’t. I relate a lot to that in my approach to all things fashion.

I had the perfect outfit planned for this occasion, I wanted to wear something floral, for obvious reasons lol, and something that would match the elegance of the Market. I chose this Forever 21 dress, this super cute Round Structured bag, and paired it with my Converse tennis shoes. I loved the vintage feel to the dress and the sweetness of it, paired with the relaxed feel of my Chucks. I think together they paired so well, and gave me the simple elegance vibe that I was going for.

I have been really into dressy dresses with tennis shoes lately, I feel like it’s such a great mix and a great way to get more wear out of my clothes. The best thing about this trend is that you can take “occasion” dresses and make them everyday and almost casual wear, just by changing up your shoes. Also, I love how the structured elements of this dress played with the structure of the bag, they paired so nicely together, and helped to make this vintage-esque dress feel even more modern.

Are you into this trend of wearing sneakers and dress together? I’d love to see ways that you styled this trend together in the comments!

Diy: No Sew 2 Piece Set

2 Piece sets have to be one of my all time favorite trends, as I am monochromatic by nature. I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon, this is definitely something that I am going to carry over to the fall and winter months ahead of us.

I have really been on the hunt for a cute set, but unfortunately it’s been really to find one that I absolutely love, that fits correctly, is made of a great material and that is cost effective. I came up with idea that I could make my very own out of thrifted dresses and long skirts, so that’s what I did! I bought a few garments to try this on, but wanted to test the waters with this $5 Gingham printed skirt. I loved the material, the print and most of the button detail on the skirt, I thought it would the perfect combo for summer.

I started out by pre-planning what look I was going for, and how long/short that I wanted the skirt portion to be… this would let me know how much fabric I had to work with for the top. As this was a no sew project I used the same materials from my previous ‘No sew’ Diy post, the hem tape that I purchased from walmart, and my handy dandy Iron. Watch the video below to see how I transformed this thrifted gingham skirt, then scroll to the pictures below to see how it all turned out. If you like the look, but don’t want to Diy, don’t worry boo I got you too. I’ve listed a few similar sets to this one at the bottom of this post.

DIY: Belt Bag Obsession

I totally feel as though this “Belt Bag” trend popped up out of nowhere, and I’ve got to tell you….I’m not mad at it. To me it feels like the Fanny Packs that I used to love as a child have grown up with me and now it’s all sexy and sophisticated and has changed it’s name to match.

As you may know from my previous blog entries, I’m very selective about the trends that I’ll join in on, due to the fact that I don’t want to purchase items that wont have longevity in my closet. I have been looking for a Belt Bag that suited my tastes and was something versatile that I could either dress up or down, but unfortunately I wasn’t finding quite what I was looking for.

Luckily on one of my, oh so many, trips to Forever21 I saw this crossbody purse that I felt was exactly the look I was going for. There were only 2 cons at that point, it wasn’t a Belt Bag, and It was full price. I have a weird thing about purchasing full price Items just to experiment on them, but I bought it anyways because I thought it’s only $17, and it should be a relatively easy transformation with little to no casualties. Can you tell I’ve had failed DIY experiments or no lol.

So I bought the purse, then I got the materials needed to transform it, it took me about a total of 10 minutes to complete and I have to say, it was one of the easiest and most stylish Diy’s that I’ve done in a long time. I highly recommend when buying the velcro strips to get the industrial version, because it’s supposed to hold up to 10lbs of force. I can almost guarantee, for something going around your waist, there is no way that you’re going to put upwards of 10lbs in your Diy belt bag, nor will you probably exert that much force moving around.

Below I pictured the origianl Diy, the one that started it all, plus a video showing 3 other bags I transformed as well. The ones in the video were purchased from my local thrift store, which I feel are perfect for practicing on. I recommend that if you are wanting to try out this Diy to go for purses that have longer straps, like crossbodies, because then you’ll be able to play around with where you want the bag to fall on your waist or hips. I hope that you enjoy the videos and if you do try this Diy out, I’d love to see pictures of what you guys do!!

Be a Collector

For me, I have found the art to buying affordable fashion pieces and making them look more luxe is to really invest the time into finding pieces that will outlast fads and on trend moments.

I like to think of myself as a collector, sort of speak, only in the way that I don’t buy a huge haul of items all at once, but instead I buy things every so often that fit into my style. This makes it easier for me in the long run, because everything magically comes together.

I think the best cure to that “I’ve been shopping all my life and have nothing to wear” feeling is to become a collector, to really think about the new pieces that you buy, to make sure that there’s something in your closet already that you can match it with, and to think about it’s longevity and how it will stand up to time.

“Be a collector, not a shopper”

Every piece of this outfit was selected at different times, even years apart. I bought this fun cactus printed romper about 2 years ago, in the sale racks at Forever21, I collected these earrings 6 months ago, and these slides about 3 months ago.

I love the way this look came together, it was the perfect combination for a hot summer day, and the pops of color were just right. I played off of the bits of yellow in the romper to make this a cohesive look. What I love even more, is that every purchase I made was inexpensive and well thought out.

The romper and earrings are no longer available in store,  I was able to find the exact romper available on Poshmark and some similar earrings to mine, in which I have listed below if you’d like to recreate this look!

Don’t judge a dress by it’s first appearance

Sometimes you have to look past what something looks like, and see it for what it could be. I feel this rings true in nearly any aspect in life, but especially when thrifting.

Most of the clothes you’ll find at the thrift store are predominately straight forward, what you see is what you get, but there are some instances where you can take something that looks extremely dated and virtually make it brand new again with very few minor changes.

I recently purchased this dress for only $5 at my local Goodwill. The first thing that I noticed about it was the print, then the triple layer ruffle skirt, those were selling points for me, but the top portion was more than lacking. I almost left without it, because I had that little voice in my head telling me that it was too far gone, and definitely not going to work. Well I can tell you that I’m glad that I pushed that thought out of my head, I absolutely, head over heels love this dress.

Once I looked past the flaw, I definitely saw a way to instantly update it and make it work. I simply tied the dress in the back, unbuttoned a few buttons, and positioned the top to be and off the shoulder dress. What a world of difference it made, this dress reminded me of so many hot items that I’m currently seeing in stores, except mine only cost me $5. This post was mainly just to tell you guys to keep an eye out for great finds, but most importantly an open mind for something that may not seem like the obvious choice, but will definitely have you feeling like a winner!

Check out my video below to see how I flipped this thrift!

Sale Rack Miracle! (Storytime)

Anyone else here live in the sale racks!? I purchased this dress recently in the sale racks of Forever 21, which if you have ever seen one of theirs, you know that it can be quite overwhelming and chaotic.

This dress was originally selling for $40 which to be honest, isn’t that much, but I was able to score it for only $14! I remember picking it up and being like there is no way that this will be my size, but then it was my size. My next thought was “there has to be something damaged on it”, the zipper, a rip, or something. It would be a totally feasible thought, considering the intricate detailed workings of the lace, but after close inspection there was no damage….there was nothing wrong with it.

Even for the slightest of seconds I looked up and around thinking “I must be getting Punk’d, they are re-vamping the show and I’m their first feature”, but Ashton was no where to be seen! So with all the quickness, I put this beautiful dress in my shopping bag and scurried down to the registers.

Then that’s when it happened, the checkout line was really long, like a lot longer than usual, and a sales person walks up to me to state that the registers are down and that they are only accepting cash.

As a millennial, and this is something that I’m not proud of, I don’t ever carry cash. So I had to put the dress on hold, which is usually something that you are not able to do with sale items, but the fashion Gods were being kind once again.

I went back to @Forever21 later that day to pick it up, with cash in hand, and was able to wear it to an am. azing blogging event with my San Antonio blogging family @BloggingSATX! I received so many complients and questions on it, and I love telling people how much I paid for something, because I want them to know that it’s definitely possible to find a killer piece for a lower price. This dress, with all it took to officially acquire it, and it’s beautiful detailing is easily one of my favorite dresses.

Unfortunately they no longer carry it in store or online, I’ve check, but lucky for you guys I’ve listed a few other knock-em-dead styles below!
