Magnolias

Fact: Magnolias are my absolute favorite flowers, they are so beautiful, elegant and unique.

I recently took a trip down to the Magnolia Market, a bucket list item that I now get to check off. As an avid HGTV watcher and a definite Chip and Joanna fan, I have been wanting to see this creation of theirs ever since the first mention on their show Fixer Upper. The Magnolia Market is full of beautiful home good treasures, both big and small, that would fit easily into any decor.

I also love that they have the cutest areas to sit and relax and picnic, they have several Food Truck vendors dedicated to the venue as well as games the whole family can play. Part of the property is also dedicated to their in house bakery and is filled with delicious aromas and even more delicious treats. This is definitely a day trip worth taking to see the extremely aesthetically pleasing and well thought out grounds.

For me, the biggest allure to the Market was the fact that Chip and Joanna are such a lovable and loving couple, that they are able to take something forgotten and overlooked and make it beautiful, and that they have an eye for seeing the potential in things that others can’t. I relate a lot to that in my approach to all things fashion.

I had the perfect outfit planned for this occasion, I wanted to wear something floral, for obvious reasons lol, and something that would match the elegance of the Market. I chose this Forever 21 dress, this super cute Round Structured bag, and paired it with my Converse tennis shoes. I loved the vintage feel to the dress and the sweetness of it, paired with the relaxed feel of my Chucks. I think together they paired so well, and gave me the simple elegance vibe that I was going for.

I have been really into dressy dresses with tennis shoes lately, I feel like it’s such a great mix and a great way to get more wear out of my clothes. The best thing about this trend is that you can take “occasion” dresses and make them everyday and almost casual wear, just by changing up your shoes. Also, I love how the structured elements of this dress played with the structure of the bag, they paired so nicely together, and helped to make this vintage-esque dress feel even more modern.

Are you into this trend of wearing sneakers and dress together? I’d love to see ways that you styled this trend together in the comments!

Be a Collector

For me, I have found the art to buying affordable fashion pieces and making them look more luxe is to really invest the time into finding pieces that will outlast fads and on trend moments.

I like to think of myself as a collector, sort of speak, only in the way that I don’t buy a huge haul of items all at once, but instead I buy things every so often that fit into my style. This makes it easier for me in the long run, because everything magically comes together.

I think the best cure to that “I’ve been shopping all my life and have nothing to wear” feeling is to become a collector, to really think about the new pieces that you buy, to make sure that there’s something in your closet already that you can match it with, and to think about it’s longevity and how it will stand up to time.

“Be a collector, not a shopper”

Every piece of this outfit was selected at different times, even years apart. I bought this fun cactus printed romper about 2 years ago, in the sale racks at Forever21, I collected these earrings 6 months ago, and these slides about 3 months ago.

I love the way this look came together, it was the perfect combination for a hot summer day, and the pops of color were just right. I played off of the bits of yellow in the romper to make this a cohesive look. What I love even more, is that every purchase I made was inexpensive and well thought out.

The romper and earrings are no longer available in store,  I was able to find the exact romper available on Poshmark and some similar earrings to mine, in which I have listed below if you’d like to recreate this look!

Three Easy DIY Tops: Tiger Mist Inspired

So, like I usually do, I was scrolling the internet minding my own business, when  I stumble upon the Tiger Mist website.  Ok, ok…I was online shopping, you caught me!

Well anyway, while I was perusing their new stock and seeing the latest designs they had to offer I came across a few tops that I really wanted, like really bad, but unfortunately my size wasn’t available.

Cabana Long Sleeve Crop - StripeRio Crop - CreamStella Tie Up Blouse - Brown

Each top honestly looked like it would be fairly easy to re-create, so I decided to embark on a new NO-SEW DIY project. I chose to get the thrifted items, because let’s face it, our parents wore some wild stuff back in the 80’s an 90’s and I felt like I would have an easier time finding fun prints. I feel like you could create these tops in so many different ways, using old t-shirts, collared blouses, and so much more.

Things you’ll need for this Project:

  1. Iron on hem tape
  2. Scissors
  3. Iron
  4. Thrift store shirts

Don’t judge a dress by it’s first appearance

Sometimes you have to look past what something looks like, and see it for what it could be. I feel this rings true in nearly any aspect in life, but especially when thrifting.

Most of the clothes you’ll find at the thrift store are predominately straight forward, what you see is what you get, but there are some instances where you can take something that looks extremely dated and virtually make it brand new again with very few minor changes.

I recently purchased this dress for only $5 at my local Goodwill. The first thing that I noticed about it was the print, then the triple layer ruffle skirt, those were selling points for me, but the top portion was more than lacking. I almost left without it, because I had that little voice in my head telling me that it was too far gone, and definitely not going to work. Well I can tell you that I’m glad that I pushed that thought out of my head, I absolutely, head over heels love this dress.

Once I looked past the flaw, I definitely saw a way to instantly update it and make it work. I simply tied the dress in the back, unbuttoned a few buttons, and positioned the top to be and off the shoulder dress. What a world of difference it made, this dress reminded me of so many hot items that I’m currently seeing in stores, except mine only cost me $5. This post was mainly just to tell you guys to keep an eye out for great finds, but most importantly an open mind for something that may not seem like the obvious choice, but will definitely have you feeling like a winner!

Check out my video below to see how I flipped this thrift!

Confidence is Key

“Confidence. If you have it, you can make anything look good” – Diane Von Furstenberg

My main goal with this page is to always give a woman confidence! I want her to know to know that it is not about the labels that you wear and your ability to keep up with the latest style trends that make a woman beautiful. This page is to show women that you can wear a $7 jumpsuit, which is what I’m wearing, and slay just as hard as any other woman out there!

I know that confidence is such a hard thing to come by, and it’s not easy to get to a point in your life where thinking about what others may think about you doesn’t bother you, at least in the slightest, but just know that what others think about you does NOT define you!

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and that it is only when you accept everything you truly are and aren’t, that you will succeed. Our differences are what make us beautiful and unique and worth having a seat at the table. There is no one who can do what you do, how you do it….remember that!

Oddly enough, for me anyways, cutting all of my hair off gave me so much more confidence! It was like, I no longer had anything to hide behind, and was able to see me for the first time in a long time. I’d love to hear of different things that may have given you guys confidence!

How to: Make Affordable Fashion Look Expensive

You know the old saying “less is more”, well sometimes it truly is. And, of course, in this scenario…I mean less by how much you spent on your clothes.

I know that sometimes there are some drawbacks to buying “Fast Fashion”, sometimes the quality can be a little less than desired, but I’ve found that a lot of these major affordable fashion houses (i.e places like H&M, Forever21, Fashion Nova) are stepping up there game when it comes to wearable pieces with longevity, and they upped the quality factor.

The key to making affordable clothes look more expensive is to find pieces that are fashionable but not too trendy. Trends are going to be to hard to have a real shelf life in your closet and will end up staying in the back of the closet. Finding pieces that fit well for your body type, so if you’re like me and you hate trying things on, this will be a pain in the butt, but it’s a definite must. Lastly, but most importantly, looking at the fabric. Some fabrics wear well on the body and look more expensive than they are, such as rayon, it’s not the most expensive, but can look like cotton depending on the piece. Velvet and satin do the same thing when incorporated into your wardrobe, when picking the right piece it can look a lot more luxe than the price tag shows.

As always I like to keep it simple, I wore this Forever21 shirt dress that I actually got on sale, and paired them with these strappy sandals, also from Forever. What I liked the most about the shirt dress is, that it’s an obvious staple that every woman should have in her closet, and that the elongated cuffs gave it an elevated look. The length makes it the perfect dress for a summer day, and the vertical stripes give me the illusion that I’m taller than I am (which is always a good thing). This one is no longer available, but I have listed a few similar shirt dress finds below, that are equally as fantastic!

These sandals, were a recent find at Forever21 and they are just under $30. The block heel makes them super comfortable for long wear throughout the day, and the simplicity of the straps make it easy to transform any outfit into a major wow fit! I think they will be extremely versatile in my closet and I can’t wait to style them in more ways. I would note that they look as though they are selling like hot cakes on the website, so fingers crossed for restocks, or head to your nearest F21 as quick as possible so that you can grab a pair as well!

Oh and by the way, just in case you haven’t noticed, I cut my hair!!! I have been wanting to start a new healthy hair journey, and wanted to start from scratch, so I chopped it all off! I’m so glad to have you guys with me on this journey and can’t wait to see what the future will bring (as far as my hair).

Together we Shine

Let me first start off by stating one of the best things a blogger can do is to collaborate with other bloggers! Whether they be inside or outside of your niche, I think we as bloggers need each other. By opening yourself up, you are opening up to a world of like minded people, who you may not have been visible to otherwise.

I have preached this before, but for bloggers, I think that it’s a good idea to make connections with others who understand the struggle of what you do, and the hard work that you put into your craft. Plus it doesn’t hurt to reach out to those who inspire you to dream bigger and to bounce ideas off of.

I recently teamed together with Danesha of @_sincerlytrill and Onyi of @sincerleyonyi, two amazingly talented, immensely stylish, and insanely gorgeous women. We put together this shoot, because the message of community over competition is very important to us. We wanted to show other bloggers, that it’s ok to share a little of the spotlight, and that lifting others up does not for a second dull your shine.

Now on to the clothes, like I stated, The babes are seriously stylish and like me love make affordable fashion pieces look extremely chic. Onyi is wearing the Target Line ‘A new Day’ Relaxed Trousers and Blazer set, which is currently on sale so you should basically run to the nearest target and snatch them up before they’re all gone. I am wearing all Forever21, of course, the Sheer Top is still in store and I think is the cutest summer staple to add to any wardrobe. These exact pants are no longer available in store or online, but I’ve linked a close second and to tie the entire look together I chose these bold Earrings. If you’re like me and love bold earrings, definitely check out  F21 as a contender, they have so many cute pairs and most under $6. Daneesha is wearing a romper from Ross, which I linked a few similar pieces below, fun frilly flats, and a vibrant scarf as a headwrap to tie her look together so effortlessly.

We had so much fun, discussing the different editing tools, style tips and future collab ideas that I can’t wait to do it again. I hope you guys enjoys this read and are inspired to reach out to your fellow blogging buds for future collabs!

Danesha’s Fit Options: F21 option , Charlotte Russe Option , 2020 Ave Option

(P.S. Us matching was super unintentional, but I guess the saying is right, great minds truly do think a like.)
